As has become so characteristic of the Western Cape Regionals held at Robertson, competition in the InHand and Harness classes was very strong. The Western Cape was privileged to have Suellen Deane of Australia judging the Senior InHand classes and Sue Cook judging the Junior Inhand classes. Anthony Deane, Sue Cook and Bertie Snyman judged the Harness classes.
I think that all entrants will agree that the show was very well organized and that they were made to feel very welcome by their hosts in the Western Cape. In this regard, many thanks must go to Maila and Mymona Samuels.
In the InHand classes, all of which were extremely strong, the lovely Hansu mares, Hansu Heidi and Hansu Starlight, took the Junior Champion Mare and Reserve. This augers well for the future of the Breed in the Western Cape.
The four ponies of Paddock Hill Stud which were entered all achieved Champion status in the Senior Mare and Junior Stallion classes, while their mare, Paddock Hill Sun Coquet, took the Supreme Welsh Pony on Show Championship.
There can be little doubt that once again that the Harness classes did not disappoint at Robertson. Here the highlight had to be the large number of quality ponies to be judged indeed, to an extent that the Senior and Junior classes had to be split in order to qualify.
Thrilling classes to watch were the under 12 and under 18 yearold driver entrants. Both these latter classes consisted of 20+ entrants.
Senior Harness Grand Champion was the much applauded stallion, Hansu Hamlet:
A very well deserved winner of Pony with Most Points Cup was the handsome stallion of Lanika Stud, Lanika Spirit, and a very grand finale was the entrance of the Team of Eight of the Lanika Stud:
As always, adding to the electric atmosphere of a Robertson show were the spectators who stood three persons deep around the arena.
